Peace camp + PEACE PARADE

Our FIRST CHILDREN’S PEACE PARADE…

in 2024 was part community fair, part family picnic, and part summer camp! We collaborated with a number of local organizations representing different issues that impact children and families (Sunrise Mvmt KC! KC Tenants! KC Family Bike Ride! TransJoy KC! Al-Hadaf!)

Attendees visited activity stations, learned about organizations they can get involved in, and had a whole lot of fun marching together and learning protest songs!

We are back this summer with more educational programming! In collaboration with Dr. Jen Lacy, founder of PH Community School, we are excited to offer a series of teach-ins leading up to parade day!

Peace Camp teach-ins will begin June 28th at PH Coffee. (See corresponding image for teach-in descriptions.)

To close out our Peace Camp teach-in series, we will gather on July 27th for a community picnic and our second Children’s Peace Parade!

Kids will share their art, zines, and report on their mutual aid project! We’ll connect with other families & visit activity stations hosted by local organizations working for a more peaceful Kansas City.

We’ll end with a parade around the park with the Sass-a-Brass band!!!

Teach-ins

“The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe; and I am beginning to suspect that whoever is incapable of recognizing this may be incapable of morality. Or, I am saying, in other words, that we, the elders, are the only models children have. What we see in the children is what they have seen in us–or, more accurately perhaps, what they see in us.”

― James Baldwin, The Nation, November 1, 1980
